What do you want to do next?

It's the question I seem to get daily. Cool that people care.

The answer is not black and white and it's something I've spent a lot of time praying and asking God for wisdom and clarity on.

My "professional" life has mostly been jobs that require me to be a generalist; meaning you have a title but you play multiple roles. I'm more wired that way, unless the role specifically connects with how He has wired me with my personality types and gifts.

I have spent most of my many years in ministry is some kind of student ministry role, but the last long season has been more about investing in adults, community ministry, groups and men's ministry. I have a deep passion for both, but the days of me being "johnny youth pastor" might be behind me. Being in the graybeard season has me wanting to invest in the young leaders as much as being "the" student leader. I could do it at the right place with the right team, but have had some conversations about helping lead a team of young leaders.

I'm an Enneagram 2, a high S on the DISC test and a Networker on the Right Path. If you know those, you know I am super relational and a pastoral shepherd in my wiring.

I've had some conversations about a "next gen" pastor and with a ministry that invests in men. I've had conversations about being a campus pastor. Frankly, almost everyone I've engaged with thus far has had different roles that might fit. That's cool, I'm trying to be openhanded and trust that He has spent my many years of ministry up to this point in preparing me for what He has ahead.

I have been praying that He brings the thing I can spend the next season of my life investing in. That thing that allows me to use the things He has given me in how He has made me as a leader and follower of Jesus to help build His Kingdom. Team and culture matter deeply to me and I'm trying to be patient to find the right fit.

So what do I want to do next? Follow where He leads.

If you've read this far, first thanks. Second, would you pray for me? It's a unique place to be in a career transition. In some ways it's really cool, in others it can cause you to do some serious soul searching as I trust Him. I appreciate you taking time to ask God for His wisdom and clarity for me as I trust Him for what's next.

Lastly, if you know of a potential good fit, I'm meeting with all kinds of folks these days. You never know how He might make clear what's next. If you think you know of a role that might be a good fit, you can email me @ jasoncarr@me.com.

I'm thankful He has me in this place, but doing my best to be patient as I trust Him for what He is doing in my part of His story as far as my career. Excited to see what He makes open and clear.
